September 26 Halloween cards class

Halloween Alcohol Ink Card Class

5 cards for $25

We will make 5 cards in the alcohol ink card class, including one using the trendy Yupo paper and a new technique. Colors as you might guess, tend toward the fall/Halloween pallet. Here is what I used, in no particular order: Peach Bellini, Butterscotch, Sunshine Yellow, Sunset Orange, Purple Twilight, Sail Boat Blue, Ginger, Espresso, Botanical Green, and Copper, in case you would like to bring your own to class.

Please bring: craft mat, scissors, blending solution if you have it, adhesive, including pop dots, and whatever you use to put on gems. It is messy, so you might want to bring rubber gloves if you don't like your hands inky!

Please bring to class: craft mat, scissors, heat gun, adhesive, craft pick, water mister, mini blending tool with a clean pad, jet black archival ink, palette knife, and if you want, your marker spritzer and a black soot marker.


I used the following distress spray colors: Hickory Smoke and Milled Lavender (or Pumice Stone).

I used Broken China and Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain. 

Lastly, I used the following alcohol inks: Wild Plum, Sunset Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Citrus, Lettuce, Mermaid, Purple Twilight, Sailboat Blue, Pool, Clover and Gold.

I used Tim's flourish stencil (THS032), and transparent gloss paste. Well, I didn't really have the Ranger paste, so I used Extra Heavy Gel Medium by Golden. A good thing to buy with your 50% off coupon at Michael's this week. You will like it but it is expensive!

Seashell and Travel Cards

I love seashell cards because they can be used for almost any occasion so I like to have a few on hand at all times.  Travel cards are great for bon voyage wishes or to send to people who just like to dream!

Alcohol inks - tricky part is that you paint with them on the paper, and then stamp, so it is not exact!

Stamped on water color paper and colored with distress markers and a water color brush.

Announcing the winner of the Christmas in July Challenge - Kathy is the winner!  She and  the other entrant Angie create Christmas cards together, so I think they will actually share the prize.  Mac the wonder dog chose from the numbers randomly placed on the ground.   

Now onto Nonnie's September challenge!

Challenge theme is to create using multiple stamps in the same project. 

I love Paris and here is a card with several stamps with Paris buildings on the same card.

Mini book: All about Mack

I love mini books - my favorite form of scrapbooking I think.  I keep a bowl of them on the coffee table in our sun room and if we are having friends or family over and I have a book or two that features them, I will put those in the living room for everyone to look at.  They are fun and fast to flip through.  I usually design them around one event, one person or one pet.  This is a book I made when  we got our dog Mack.  I couldn't really walk around with photos in a zip lock bag so one afternoon I made this mini book to show him off.  Paper with a pet theme didn't seem to do him justice so I went with a red, white and blue theme for an All American dog.  I used 2 mini books from the dollar section at Michaels, the papers from a Jenni Bowlin line, ribbons and embellishments from my stash and lots of Beacons!  I went with two books because those dollar books usually have only 4 pages and I needed a few more pages.  I used the leftover pages to die cut pieces for other projects.

The first two pages showcase the pics and text from the web pages of the rescue group where we found him.  The labels highlight what is on the pages....the red squirrel stamp fits him to a Tee!

I didn't have a lot of photos of him so I circle punched multiple pics of him and matted them to increase the impact.  I was making this in one day and wasn't going out to get more photos - had to make work what I had on hand.  It's faster that way and some times necessity leads to a fun design.

I like interactive pieces in mini books - another advantage they have over books with page protectors.  This flap describes his vital statistics on the front and when it is flipped up has a picture of our fabulous vet and details Mack's first trip to see him.

Great pictures of him tell the story - he is huge!  Stretched out on the couch in the top picture and standing on the coffee table (first and last time!) the first day we had him.  Of course I took the picture before I made him get down. 

Had to tell the story of his interactions with our three cats.  And the new complex feeding system with a baby gate so he didn't eat all of their food.  They were here first of course!  Little red cats are a cute stamp with room for printing in the letter they hold.  I often use stamps to make an element for my page when I can't find the right embellishment.  Cats above, joy stamp with cats below!

When I have odd shaped pages I try and do some of the journaling in a shape relative to the page.  I use a word doc text box and then place lines, circles or shapes over it to get the text formatted to fit.  The journaling here is from a description of the the dogs on the Great Pyrenees web site describing how they love their couches and comfy chairs - they will squeeze into anything soft!  It's not just him - it's a breed trait!

Last page - I alternate how the pages are laid out so that as you are flipping through it the orientation is easy for you to read.  I made the red circle with the paw print embellishment by punching the paw print first and then a circle shape - matted with a blue shape.  Ball fringe on both the front and back covers added a fun dimension - and what dog doesn't like a ball?

• tell any story of a one day event - birthday, anniversary, or any person.  

Your photos and words will personalize it!  

Please bring to class:  craft mat, scissors, heat gun, water mister, adhesive, craft pick brown distress ink and a blending tool, and mini stapler if you have it.  In addition to your basic supplies, please bring Cracked Pistachio distress paint and a pink crop-a-dial if you own one and a pencil.

Dream Canvas at VIP in Rochester

Star Seashell Book

This is an August class to wrap up the summer. It has a seashell theme and a quote about the sea on the cover. You may of course make a custom cover and call it Cruise 2010 or the name of your favorite lake. Or it could just be a dream book. After we make the star book we will put together the 5 spreads and the cover. The back of the pages could hold extra pics or journaling. Let us take a look....

The book as displayed...it is meant to be left open and standing on a bookshelf or a coffee table...or anywhere you have a little space. The book is 7¨ tall and each page is 5¨ (although the internal page is 6" wide).

The second spread. Big chip board shell has a fun paint technique on it.



Love how the stamp on the left matches the paper in the middle spread.



This butterfly is much prettier in real life...it is alcohol inks on a piece of transparency and it is quite shimmery...but hard to photograph!



The last spread...perfect pearls...you didn´t think I would do this and not use Perfect Pearls! They look like seashells.


The cover when the book is closed and tied. That little panel is the one that can be customized to say whatever you would like. Hope you can join me for class... it will be fun! August 12th and 22nd at Scrapbooks Too.

Tag Tuesday Challenge #58: Summer

OK, I finished this a week ago but have had trouble getting new camera batteries to take a picture of it -LOL. So the background is peeled paint and broken china distress ink. Seashells are stamped in olive archival ink and Beach is stamped in black pigment ink and then traced over with a black glaze pen. The piece of shell paper is edged in Stampendous Sand embossing powder - which really does look like sand in real life. The beach stamp is from Impressions Obsession and the shells are a lot of unmounted stamps I have collected over time.

I have been published...

for the second time, but as big a thrill as the first time! Someone in a class told me she had seen my cards in Take Ten; I did not know if she meant last summers issue or the new one. I went online and in the little preview they run for the magazine I could see one of the cards I had submitted so I knew it was true. Like a total geek I checked the bookstore everyday for over a week before they finally had a copy and I could see it for real. I contacted Stampington and they sent me out a copy which arrived on Saturday with a sweet message!! There are 3 cards and one of the details in the back. Not sure how good the images are but I will try and post them here...if you have the magazine they are on page 14, 22 and 28...and Stampington photography is always excellent. Tomorrow I will find all the stamp credits and post the ones I do not remember off the top of my head.

The mannequin is from Lost Coast designs and the Thanks is an old Stampin´ Up.



The changed the directions on this one to say computer print the sentimentS when it should have been the singular. The ¨even cowgirls get the blues¨ is part of that cool stamp. I did print the ¨Hang in there...¨ on my computer before I inked and distressed it. The little copper stars are way cooler then this pic...they are just chipboard painted and inked but they look like real old hammered copper.
