Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015 December challenge

Don't have the punches, nor is there any place around here to buy them so I used Tim's Idea-ology mini garland - stacked the pine one first and then the boxwood one on top.  Also don't have the bow die or holiday chit chats, so used real ribbon and stamped a saying with the phrase from the new Christmas tree set.  I always do a second tag in a Christmas theme - so for the second one this month I did a blue and white theme.  I used white felt and sprayed it with Blueprint Sketch Distress Spray using Tim's snowflake stencil.  The deer is cut with a Sizzix die and embossed with Tim's snowflake embossing folder.   A few gems for sparkle and an embroidery floss bow and he is good to go....or prance as the case may be.  Merry Christmas one and all...

November 21st class - Christmas cards with alcohol inks

Christmas cards with alcohol inks

class makes 5 cards for $25
November 21st 1 pm - 3:30 pm

Please bring:  craft mat, scissors, blending solution if you have it, adhesive, including pop dots, and whatever you use to put on gems.  It is messy, so you might want to bring rubber gloves if you don't like your hands inky!  If you sign up for the class and would like to know what ink colors I am using I will send you a list of the colors for each card.  You may bring the colors if you want or you may use mine.  It will also give you a list so you don't need to take so many notes.  I must tell you that the little red bird card is much cuter in person than in this photo!

November 2015 Tim Holtz Tag Challenge

So, so fun!  Used a grid stamp in place of the linen stamp and the word Beautiful from a Tim Holtz die set, but otherwise pretty close to the original.  Loved the pumpkin technique.  For the Christmas tag I used the snowman stamp and blues and purples.  His puffiness from the debossing technique is really cute in real life.  Sometimes photos just don't capture the dimension!

Tim Holtz October tag challenge

Used a stamp to make the Christmas tree and just added little tabs to the edges to give it some nice dimension!

October 24th,   11 am -1 pm

Please bring to class: craft mat, scissors, heat gun, adhesive including pop dots, craft pick, water mister and white paint. One of your adhesives needs to be a wet glue like glossy accents.

Page class, $20
October 24th,
9 am - 11 am

Please bring to class: craft mat, scissors, heat gun, adhesive including pop dots, craft pick, water mister. One of your adhesives needs to be a wet glue like glossy accents.

You have a choice of sayings to stamp for the sentiment or bring your own stamp or write a headline. I realize mine is pretty specific to me. There is a photo of the stamp options below. The photo mat is 5 x7, but lots of sizes would work. I realize the page doesn't match the tag, but the tag was not inspiring me this month. In this page, I used a Crafters Workshop stencil, TCW 188 and the following Distress sprays: Wild Honey, Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, Tea Dye, Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo, Aged Mahogany and Peeled Paint. If you wanted to bring your own sprays, you can substitute colors - like Spiced Marmalade for RP or Squeezed Lemonade for MS. I also used Wild Honey Distress Stain.

Vacation Page

Don't forget classes tomorrow, September 26! See previous blog posts for details.

Enter the September stamping challenge on this blog!  See this blog post for details.  Winners picked randomly.

Now, onto the art...

This page has a background of acrylic paints that are mixed and blended with water.  The final layer is Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist applied through a stencil to give a slight watery shimmer to the page.  The starfish, sand dollar and seahorses were covered with distress embossing powder and real sand to get a great, rough texture.  The netting comes from Michael's, sold in a bag near the sea shells and glass baubles used for home decor.  The whole page is a nummy mixture of different textures and complimentary color!

Halloween Alcohol Ink Card Class
September 26th, 1:30p - 3:30p
5 cards for $25

We will make 5 cards in the alcohol ink card class, including one using the trendy Yupo paper and a new technique. Colors as you might guess, tend toward the fall/Halloween pallet. Here is what I used, in no particular order: Peach Bellini, Butterscotch, Sunshine Yellow, Sunset Orange, Purple Twilight, Sail Boat Blue, Ginger, Espresso, Botanical Green, and Copper, in case you would like to bring your own to class.

Please bring: craft mat, scissors, blending solution if you have it, adhesive, including pop dots, and whatever you use to put on gems. It is messy, so you might want to bring rubber gloves if you don't like your hands inky!

I used Broken China and Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain.

Lastly, I used the following alcohol inks: Wild Plum, Sunset Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Citrus, Lettuce, Mermaid, Purple Twilight, Sailboat Blue, Pool, Clover and Gold.

September 26 Page class

Page class, $20
September 26th
9 am - 11 am
I used two 4 x 6 photos, although an 8 x 6 would work too. The supply list is the same as the tag class list, with three additions: Red Pepper and Raspberry Alcohol Ink and Black Soot distress ink and a blending tool. I think it's a great page when you have lots of different colors going on and no particular theme. It would be cute with a dog or cat photo too!

Eileen Hull is coming to Mpls. on September 29!

I firmly believe that we need to support teachers from around the country that come to Minnesota to teach so we can continue to learn in person from talented people. There is a great opportunity later this month: The Paper Trail is coming to Crafters Haven on Tuesday September 29.
Join Eileen Hull for one of her fantastic classes and see her Trailer Scotty which she has fixed up as her craft room on the road.

The first class will be this great Metal Book Journal. Class time is 1-4, non-refundable fee is $55.00. Please bring your basic craft kit, paint brush, and water spritzer.

The second project (below) is a great train case and mini album using the ever popular Graphic 45 Worlds Fair paper. Class time is 5-8, all you need to bring is your basic craft kit. The non-refundable fee is $55.00. Need I tell you this is the one I have signed up for??

Please call Crafter's Haven at (612) 729-9035 to reserve your spot for either or class.

Seashell and Travel Cards

I love seashell cards because they can be used for almost any occasion so I like to have a few on hand at all times.  Travel cards are great for bon voyage wishes or to send to people who just like to dream!

Detail gold embossing powder on black paper makes a quick card!

Alcohol inks with vintage mahogany embossing powder and Frantage mix on top of Graphic 45 paper and a brown card base.

Alcohol inks used with a stencil and a stamp, with detail gold embossing powder.

Alcohol inks - tricky part is that you paint with them on the paper, and then stamp, so it is not exact!

Stamped on water color paper and colored with distress markers and a water color brush.

Beautiful tag this month- loved the transparent paste!

Tim Holtz Challenge June 2015

Here is my take on Tim's challenge - instead of a tag,  a page layout.  I did the exact same process on 12x12 Ranger manilla cardstock - used Tea Dye, Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo sprays for the background and then used Chipped Sapphire, Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass ink to make the plaid with the stencil.  I used Chipped Sapphire to stamp the flourish on a tag and inked a smaller tag with Stormy Sky before I stamped it with Tim's Love You to the Moon and Back saying.  I do like the way the page turned out!

June Tim Holtz Challenge

The Tim tag looks pretty close to the original that you can find here.  For the Christmas tag, I used the green ink pad we make to ink the Christmas background stamp - ran it horizontally across the words.  It was a good fast way to ink the stamp in multiple colors.
